Uuuh, the first paper from the Todesco lab! A phased, chromosome-level assembly for nettle - it not only stings, but it is also full of chromosomal rearrangements!π₯¬π§¬.Great work from Kaede Hirabayashi, in collaboration with the Deyholos and Cronk labs

Uuuh, such interesting science! π Thanks to @ubcscience @ubcmsl for putting this nice video together, and for giving me an opportunity to show off my yellow Ikea armchair π»π§ͺπ§¬.
Dr. Marco Todesco (@MarcoTodescoCnv) of @ubcmsl studies how plants adapt changing environments. He aims to link ecological processes to genetic variation using molecular & developmental biology, genetics, genomics, physiology, & field studies. @UBCBotany @fos_ubco

Wondering where #centromeres or tandem repeats are in your genome assembly? Great new tool by Cassandra Elphinstone - assembly required (but nothing else) π§¬πΎππ»π¦πͺ°π§π½

Many thanks to @GenomeBC for supporting our efforts to reduce the (high) carbon footprint of cannabis cultivation! We'll contribute to developing varieties that can be grown outdoors (instead of in energy-hungry indoor facilities) - with the help of genomics, of course ππ±π§¬π§ͺ.
ππΏπ BC researchers are tackling #ClimateChange challenges in agriculture & aquaculture! @GenomeBC & @IAFBC funded 8 new projects with $1.84 million to harness the power of genomics. . #GIRAFFFunding #Genomics #BCNews #Sustainability #Innovation
