Was a privilege to participate in a lively panel discussion on “ Women In the Media” @IIC_Delhi last Saturday, October 11. Coming as it did just after the Afghanistan Foreign Minister’s press conference excluding women journalists, it gave us the opportunity to point out that

All’s well that ends well. Female journalists invited to the Taliban Foreign Minister Muttaqi’s press conference. Good for the Government of India who most certainly made him understand that the new entente between the two countries needs the goodwill of the Indian public.

This should be a wake up call for us as females- diplomats & journalists. If this is not outrightly condemned or distanced from by those in power, it will be seen as enabling this blatant misogyny & a setback for confidence in the democratic structure of governance of our nation.

Agree. And we as news organisations should not cover these press conferences where female journalists are barred. Media should not carry the reports of the Taliban Foreign Minister’s meetings in Delhi.
In my opinion, the male journalists should have walked out of the press conference as a mark of protest.
