When it comes to women in the red-light areas, there is an ill-informed perception that they have a lot of money and are financially independent. The reality is far from it and #COVID19 has made this problem worse manifold, making it harder for them to leave even if they want to.
@PreranaATC @MajlisLaw @UngenderTalks @INBreakthrough @stc_india There can be many situations that makes people vulnerable to violence in home - poverty - patriarchal mindset - disability - economic status/unemployment - mental disorders - alcoholism #16days #HumanRightsDay

@PreranaATC @MajlisLaw @INBreakthrough @stc_india @SayftyCom Rigid gender roles within the household, therefore lack of agency, loss of jobs and/or little to no financial independence, lack of support systems can make women and children vulnerable to violence at home. #16Days #16DaysOfActivism #INeverAskForIt

In the red-light areas, indebtedness to local money lenders has increased. The women are not literate and often do not know how much they owe the money lenders. Amid COVID-19 induced lockdown, many of them owe nearly 60 thousand in rent to their brothel keepers. #16Days
@PreranaATC @UngenderTalks @INBreakthrough @stc_india @SayftyCom Lack of economic resources create patterns of violence and making it extremely difficult for the victims to extricate themselves.
