Wikipedia doesn't need your donations. It only costs $5 million per year to run their servers. They have $310 million in assets.

They just removed the location from “Date joined” entirely I guess I was right and they realized that even coming up with a location now would lead to incorrect data being shown
@amasad X stores the original signup IP, then geolocates it using todays IP database. If that IPv4 block got reassigned or sold to a Dutch ISP later, it would now show Netherlands even if you signed up elsewhere

It's actually insane the number of services using AWS all going down at the same time 😭 Someone asked me if I was affected by this…NO, while AWS has upsides to it, I prefer using @Hetzner_Online (I have been happily using them since 2022) (Yes, @InviteMoody runs on Hetzner!)

I'm honestly glad he decided to go with this route because while deleting dormant accounts people were using automated tools to snatch usernames as they became available
@stillgray We’ve freed up over a million so far. Will free up tens of millions in the coming weeks. However, as soon as we do this, the bot armies immediately snatch the namespace back again!
