Frothy Xenolith (Xenopumice) have been found in several volcanoes in the Dessert of Saudi Arabia. What can they tell us about the underlying basement and how magma travels through it? Here our new article summarising our ideas: https://t.co/pYZpVj1EKY

In our paper, we propose a 2-stage model involving fractionation of basaltic magma in the mid-crust followed by assimilation of altered crust at shallow levels. Read the paper here #OpenAccess: https://t.co/cRgqv9Ut16 ๐งต3/3

The basaltic rocks at Katla have fairly mantle-like oxygen isotope ratios whereas the silicic rocks have noticeably low ratios, suggesting they interacted with Icelandic crust with a modified oxygen isotope signature (low dยนโธO crust) ๐งต2/3

Come and work with me, and the rest of the @ROTTnROCK gang to explore the stability of rotten volcanoes @LDR_Strasbourg @VOLCAPSE @MagmaProf
๐๐จ Not one, but TWO PhD positions now recruiting in Dublin @UCD_Earth_Sci, supervised primarily by @claire_harnett1 - the projects will focus on modelling the effect of hydrothermal alteration on volcanoes. Deadline: 22nd January #findaphd
