Definitely not true for VGC players, especially not amongst those with recent success re: justin, brian, joe, etc. I have not walked up to a single successful player and felt any form of ego whatsoever. Every one I've spoken to has spoken to me as an equal and all are friendly
One thing that may surprise you is many Pokémon players have big egos.
