I have recently been asked a lot about the risks of crypto treasury firms. I will outline the main risk I see. This is not a complete walkthrough—just a surface-level overview. With risks, as with many things, they are often obvious in hindsight but not always clear beforehand.

The U.S. ETF inflow mirrors — not entirely surprisingly — recent price developments, with Ethereum outperforming. So far in August, the U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have seen a net outflow of $315.1 million, whereas the Ethereum ETFs have seen a net inflow of $1.72 billion.

The U.S. inflation print came in more or less in line with expectations. It appears that the market feared inflation would come in hotter, likely due to tariffs. In fact, the effect of tariffs has been fairly muted so far, but the other side of the argument is that the impact.

Less than three months ago, these firms didn’t own a single Ether. Now, all three own more Ether than the Ethereum Foundation. Together, they hold a collective 2.1 million Ether, worth about $9 billion.

For the first time since December 2024, Ethereum has crossed $4,000.

Ethereum is the uncrowned champion of stablecoins. It has $135.4 billion issued, followed by Tron with $82.9 billion and Solana with $11.2 billion. Solana, however, has seen the largest percentage growth among the top three in recent years.

For the first month, U.S. Ethereum ETFs stepped up to Bitcoin ETFs’ pace in July, with $5.43 billion in net inflows compared to Bitcoin’s $6.00 billion. However, just one trading session into August, both saw outflows.

We are nearing the end of the month. So far, it has been by far the best month for the U.S. Ethereum ETFs, with a net inflow of $4.67 billion—surpassing the previous record of $2.08 billion set in December 2024.
