First a pentamer, then a hexamer… now an octamer! The riddle of the enigmatic CCG10-NLR immune receptor family cracked open 🔥 Congrats Guanghao @GuanghaoGuo He Zhang @mhz1989 Selva @M__Selvaraj et al. #NLRbiology #plantsci #immunology
New preprint! We report the largest plant resistosome ever described. We revealed the wheat NLR WAI3, a member from the mysterious CCG10-NLR clade, forms an unprecedented octameric assembly with a unique channel architecture. And the well-known RPS2 might work the same way!

Please read here about a plant disease resistance protein that makes an octameric resistosome. We describe about its identification, architecture, action and assembly. Congrats to all involved. @GuanghaoGuo, He Zhao @mhz1989

Wheat never fails to surprise us—like a CNL that assembles just like a TNL!

Nucleotide-binding and leucine-rich repeat (LRR) receptors (NLRs) are widespread intracellular immune sensors across kingdoms. In plants, the G10-type coiled-coil (CCG10)-NLRs form a distinct...

A trade-off between investment in molecular defense repertoires and growth in plants | Science

Given the negative fitness effects that pathogens impose on their hosts, the benefits of resistance should be universal. However, there is marked variation across plant species in the number of...

Genetic incompatibility occurs when a mismatched pair of plant immune components mounts autoimmune responses in hybrids. Highly diversified NLR receptors are main culprits of the genetic conflict,...

#Plants use NLRs for #pathogen defense, but what do downstream "helper" #NLRs do? @M__Selvaraj @mpcontreras4 @KamounLab &co reveal that the helper NLR NRC2 flips from autoinhibited homodimer to active oligomeric resistosome upon activation #PLOSBiology

🚨 A new twist in #NLRbiology! 🚨 Excited to report on the surprising mechanism where the helper NLR NRG1 targets organellar membranes to trigger immunity unlike canonical CC-NLRs, which function at the plasma membrane! 1/11 🧵 https://t.co/jqIquRcz9D

A two-component signature determines which rust fungi secreted proteins are translocated into the cells of the host plant
biorxiv.org
Rust diseases of plants are caused by parasitic fungi that feed off living plant cells by means of haustoria that form within plant cells. These haustoria also secrete a large number of proteins,...
