Delta #corn yields have been pretty strong. We greatly benefit from Triple Run Farms’ effort to better assess hybrid performance on various soils. Thanks to Adron, Alex, eight participating seed companies and all involved. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #mscrops #plant25 #harvest25 #ag

We have some outstanding corn being harvested. This dryland plot was grown at the MSU Brown Loam Experiment Station near Raymond by @Tsoignier56 . Thanks to the eight participating seed companies and everyone involved. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #mscrops #Harvest25

#Corn drydown is dictated by the environment. Although is was hot last week, hybrids grown in our plots at MSU dried about 0.6% per day, which is less than expected. A 1” rain, two showers, high humidity and calm winds limited drying. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #mscrops #harvest25 #ag

Corn #Harvest25 is in full swing in the MS Delta. This dryland plot is rather unique for the Delta and was grown north of Greenwood. Thanks to Ernest, Hayes, Tim, eight participating seed companies, and all involved. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #mscrops #corn #plant25

Kernel weight is key for high #corn yields. It is easy to focus on kernel number, but their size and weight help set your potential. This is the last yield component resolved and is based upon late plant health, environment, and genetics. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #harvest25

Rain can still help our April planted #corn. Kernels are still filling, so ample moisture will help pack on size and weight. The milk-line on this crop has progressed about 2/3 of the way through kernels. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #plant25 #harvest25 #dryland #ag #roi

Harvest aids will be needed in some #corn fields. However, take care to spray them only after black-layer, since killing corn prematurely will halt grain fill. This layer completes kernel growth and isolates them from the plant. Thus, grain drying is unaffected. 🌽#mscorn

Frequent rain caused plenty of #corn nitrogen issues this year. Perhaps the most important lesson is that N timing is critical. Late N timing stunted corn growth, resulting in short plants with small ears - not a favorable outcome. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #mscrops #soilfertility

Altering your late corn #irrigation schedule is a great opportunity to improve #ROI. Corn’s water use drops off nearly half compared to peak use as it nears maturity. Thus, you can prolong intervals and use a drier threshold. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #plant25 #corn

#Corn kernels near the tip often fail. Ears prioritize their lower portion and set kernels by 20 days after tassel. Thus, kernels often abort when energy is limiting. Reasons may include:. 🌽Saturated soil.✔️Cloudy days.🌽Nutrient deficiencies .✔️Genetics.🌽Variable growth
