Last week, Melissa Nelson (Internship/Externship Coordinator) took 10 students to the Iowa and Nebraska State Convention to share the Mside agriculture experience with high school FFA members! We are excited to see many of these students at their campus visits!

Yesterday in AGED 202, Dan Leinen from Reality Works gave our students the chance to practice welding through a virtual welding simulator! Along with the simulator, students used graham crackers and frosting to practice different types of welding joints.

The annual Ag Club Banquet was held Sunday, March 27. New Ag Club and Garden Club officers were elected, as well as the induction of new DTA and ATA honor society members! We are thankful for the 2021-22 officers for all their hard work they put into these organizations.

Agri 401 class spent some time in the greenhouse looking at the crops that they are raising. The students also observed some corn roots that are extremely stressed because they are planted in too small of a pot for proper soil profile exploration.

National Ag Week was a success at Morningside University full of fun interactive activities! Thank you to Iowa Corn for giving us cool ag swag to give out to students and showing off the trailer to everyone around campus! I hope everyone enjoyed Ag Olympics. Happy Ag Week!

Agri401 Crop Production toured Plymouth Energy LLC to learn about the ethanol industry and the value that corn has on our local economy. In Agri/Bus 320, students have talked about enterprise budgeting to identify more profitable ag enterprises in the whole-farm plan.

The Morningside Greenhouse has added Nile Talapia! We are also thrilled to see how much produce has been collected. We recently harvested 4 pounds of spinach! We can’t wait to see the rest of the amazing things our students will be learning at the Rosen Ag Center this spring!

On February 3, the Ag Club had a meeting discussing some important events. They have been working really hard on getting fun activities scheduled for National Ag Week and the banquet in March! Also, new Ag Club t-shirts will be sold soon, so stay in touch for awesome merchandise!

Crop Production 401 class has been working on planting 5 different crops in the greenhouse to observe during the semester. We attended the ISU Crop Advantage meeting in LeMars to learn about corn root worm management, carbon market, and affects of wildfire smoke on our crops.

📚📣CLASS UPDATE📚📣.In AGED 202, Ag Mechanics class is working with Western Iowa Tech Community College students this semester. They will work on many different types of mechanics. Last week, they began laying out their wall structure they will soon put together!

On January 25, the Ag Club made a visit to President Reynder's house to celebrate how much he has supported our club during his time at Morningside! He hosted a delicious supper and we discussed all of the student's plans going forward after graduation. He will be missed!
