The idea of following the killer, rather than the victims is an interesting and unique spin on the slasher concept but actually winds up hurting the film in my opinion, as the viewer no-longer has an “in” to the story.

The film does some things really well. Particularly the gore effects, when shown, are top notch. I typically like the lack-of-score concept, but I feel like it hurts this film. It makes those looooong, slow tracking shots that follow our killer seem THAT much slower.

I was very much looking forward to FINALLY sitting down to watch this and MAN… was I disappointed. This is a love letter to the slasher-genre and basically plays out like a #FridayThe13th film. A really, really slow plodding Friday the 13th film. 💀 💀 out of 💀💀💀💀💀

All this over a Direct-to-Video Resident Evil movie that I actually like but just didn’t like with Jill’s casting. Which I apparently should have because of “representation. I thought we were having a friendly debate? It wasn’t that serious. 🤷♂️ I just didn’t like her as Jill.

For the record, my opinion that 1) when adapting something; you should try to stick as close to the source material as you can, as to not alienate your core fans and B) Diversity for diversitys sake is hollow and lifeless and often times reeks of studio pandering.

That’s the problem with the world today. Everyone wants to stick their fingers in their ears and cry some kind of “-ist” when someone disagrees with them. They don’t actually LISTEN to the counter-point because they don’t want to. They are right. The end. Sigh.
