Anyone who thinks racism, homophobia, or other forms of bigotry are "a part of playing soccer" has no business themselves being a part of the game at the professional or any other level.

Kailen Sheridan red card yesterday was for abusive language towards a match official. Included accusatory remarks regarding match fixing, apparently, which rarely goes over well to say the least.

Personal news:
In July of 2014, I stepped on a water bottle while sprinting down the touchline for an O30 match in Houston. I haven't been on the field since.
Today, my 2022 badge arrived in the mail.
Update from Minnesota:
6 cameras will be available for the match, only 2 of which have active operators. The other 4 are stationary and unmanned.
They apparently also found a truck operator this afternoon.
It will not be a quality production.

I really don't know how to explain to y'all that the reason the scabs are going to review more often is simply because they're making game-changing mistakes at a higher rate.
@MLSRefStats
I don't care how often they use var, they use it CORRECTLY more often and MLS referees should take note. These guys have been more willing to overturn calls in the games I've watched.

Every time he shows up, they should give him a different, highly incongruous seating arrangement. One week he's got a lifeguard chair. Next week, beanbag pants.

A goalkeeper is considered to still be in the process of releasing the ball on this sort of drop kick until the ball is *kicked* so here's what that moment looks like.
#NWSLChallengeCup
#HOUvUTAH
Why does this matter? Because through two weeks, the scabs are going to review at more than twice the rate that PRO themselves aim to stay below. PRO's own metrics demonstrate the significant drop-off in quality. MLS can spin it all they want, but the data doesn't lie.
This year, through two weeks in
#MLS
, there have been 22 video reviews.
Last year, through two weeks, with our professional officials on the field:
2 reviews.

There's someone in Austin right now who's like "We can make a bigger taco," and they will, but they'll also use 6 Old El Paso seasoning packets for flavor.
This is so well done. How many referees are articulate enough to do an interview like this with minimal preparation?
Communication is so important. Being able to concisely and logically explain decisions on the field and elsewhere like this is not easy.
If you're curious, and I know you are, Delgado's second caution can be appealed per MLS rules, as can any second caution resulting in a red card and send off. It's certainly not something you see often (ever?), but you could see it here.

Teams get too much airtime from outperforming the pundits' preseason predictions. Let's shame some teams they thought were going to be good instead.
Everyone had

@AnalysisEvolved
vindicated, as usual.
Instead of having a hissy fit whenver someone actually gets what's coming to them for abuse of match officials, maybe invest some of that energy into not getting railroaded by the league on every CBA negotiation.
One more thing.
Instead of asking why Andy Williams didn't speak out sooner, ask why Andy Williams felt that speaking out was *futile.* Therein lies the rot.
#RSL
Referee can always wave down a flag from an assistant referee if they know that the flag is wrong. Nothing wrong with the goal. Nashville can gripe that the AR should not have raised the flag, and they're probably right, but they still have to play to the whistle.
#NSHvATL
eMLS would be infinitely better if they just played matches along with the regular MLS schedule and had to use the exact same rosters as the actual games.

This runs into two Law changes that haven't reached MLS yet. Next year Gallese's first yellow would be ignored during kicks from the mark AND the encroachment would be a warning first offense. Still on the 2019/2020 Laws through MLS Cup.

Remember, the thrower must have both feet on or outside the touchline when releasing the ball. A heel on the touchline, even if the rest of his foot is on the field of play, is perfectly legal.

Eh, go ahead and complain. It comes with the territory. I think we can manage to go at least a month without arguing there's some magical well of better referees standing just off camera, though.
Once again reminding you all that the MLS Disciplinary Summary website doesn't add supplemental discipline until it's announced by the league so if you're sitting there checking to see when it refreshes every day, you're wasting your time.

Rare to see it happen, but the player taking the penalty kick cannot touch the ball a second time until it is touched by another *player* (incl. the goalkeeper). Restart with an indirect free kick for the opposing team, no misconduct.
I can now reveal what I know about the Mike Petke situation.
As many have speculated, he was indeed shouting "motherfucking pu**" at the referee following the final whistle. This was picked up by cameras.

No, the foul occurs something like 65 yards from goal before possession is established with a deeper central defender still to beat. It's a very unsporting act, but it's not DOGSO.
Objective Error:
The dropped ball restart at 45+3' should have been given to the

goalkeeper inside his own penalty area as the ball was last touched inside said area. [Law 8]

Loving the videos in particular in which we have 10000% not a handball offense, a good argument for a missed penalty, several Switchbacks players crowding an opponent for an unknown reason, and a reckless foul that was seemingly properly sanctioned with a yellow card. Scandal.
@thegoalkeeper
Yeah, every playoff match has a goal designated for a shootout if necessary. I think the official reason is security/safety? Your guess is as good as mine.
Just to explain what's going on, the person in the pink shirt may not be allowed to give the ball directly to a player. Rather, it has to cleaned and placed on a stand. It was initially a COVID precaution, and I guess they must still be enforcing it.

The incident, while certainly worthy of a sending off in its own right, did not involve violent conduct such as throwing the ball at the referee, at least not to my knowledge.
