And there have been a few hints that the shape of convenience might be changing. This one’s a personal fave: 52% agree that now they’re at home more, next day delivery - a bastion of convenience ecomm - doesn’t matter as much.

But it’s not all plain sailing. 80% of those shopping a category online for the first time agreed that shopping for some types of items is easier than others. So there’s still plenty to improve.

And it’s not been as painful as we predicted. 74% of those who shopped at least one category online for the first time agreed that ā€˜shopping online was easier than I thought it would be for these items’.

44% of respondents had shopped one of our key categories online for the 1st time. % differed by category, likely based on a number of factors such as pre-pandemic purchase context (the garden centre was a great day trip) or new needs (like buying your own office stationary. Sob.)
