Following a day filled with storms and heavy showers, a beam of light broke through a gap in the horizon during the final moments of daylight in Carlisle yesterday, perfectly coinciding with a passing shower to form this stunning sight over Carlisle Cathedral Precinct.

An absolutely atmospheric autumnal vista captured today in the Scottish Borders, looking towards the valley of Linhope Burn, with a wonderful array of uplands forming the backdrop including Carlin Tooth and Tudhope Hill.

An atmospheric scene captured recently in the Southern Uplands of Scotland. I just love this view overlooking the remote farmstead and pastures of Carewoodrig, seen from the top of Tudhope Hill, and here the mist and dappled light complimented the remote landscape perfectly.

The shifting seasons are epitomised in this view of the Southern Uplands in Scotland as a torrential shower sweeps across the verdant valley of Nithsdale, while the striking Scaur Hills loom beyond the pastures, with Cairnkinna Hill standing as the most prominent.

Following on from my last picture, here's another captured during yesterday's spectacular sunrise at Castlerigg in the Lake District. Stone circles are always sacred places, but even more so when witnessing natural sights like this standing amongst them.

A stunning sunrise captured in the heart of the Lake District this morning. Here, the whole stone circle at Castlerigg is pictured, with the cloud-capped Blencathra to the left, and Clough Head to the right.

Just shy of a week since my last shot at Carlisle Castle, I was able to capture yet another beautiful sunrise from that very location this morning. I absolutely love the warm glow that illuminates the stonework at this time of year.

Captured yesterday evening, some atmospheric light from the heights of Tudhope Hill in the Scottish Borders, gazing towards the thrillingly named Lightning Hill.

The Eildon Hills stand out on a stormy day in the Scottish Borders, captured from Traquair Forest. The passing storms helped to isolate the pointed peaks even further, but unfortunately they were heading my way and I got absolutely soaked not long after this shot was captured.

Ullock Pike - in my opinion one of the finest looking fells in the Lake District - captured today during a moody and misty morning.

The grand outline of Pen-y-ghent, one of Yorkshire's famous Three Peaks, revealing itself momentarily through the mist, while a patch of pastures in Ribblesdale beneath are bathed in fleeting sunshine. #Penyghent #Ribblesdale #YorkshireDales #NorthYorkshire

The iconic engine 60163 Tornado seen chugging through Ribblesdale during a stormy morning today. Luckily, the showers held off here as the tour arrived, allowing me to capture it against the majestic mountain backdrop of Pen-y-ghent, one of Yorkshire's famous Three Peaks.

Captured during a splendid sunrise atop Skelfhill Pen the other day, I just loved how the soft morning light began cascading over the layers and contours of the scenery, gazing out across the rolling Teviotdale terrain towards the faraway, pointed peaks of the Eildon Hills

Over the last few years, I have developed a deep affection for these Southern Uplands of Scotland. I first reached the summit of Skelfhill Pen only a few months back, but I knew I would love to return for sunrise, and it seems I chose the perfect morning for it today.

Just last night, I was fortunate to witness this enchanting scene within the Cathedral Precinct in Carlisle; the Cathedral itself illuminated in all its glory, and The Fratry's gothic windows radiating beauty as the light permeated through them. Hope you enjoy the picture.

There's something magical about how thick fog and clouds can distort our perception of scale. This could easily be a towering 10,000 feet mountain soaring through the clouds, when in reality Helm Crag is actually just a little over 1,000 feet tall.

There was some lovely light knocking around in the Lake District first thing this morning, as well as a fresh layer of snow on some of the higher tops. Here, the fell of Birks can be seen rising beyond the picturesque lake of Ullswater, captured from the slopes of Gowbarrow Fell.
