50 years ago today, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sunk in Lake Superior, with all 29 hands lost. This goes out to those souls who perished in the Great Lakes. Also, this goes out to my dad Steve Hendrickson and all who worked on the boats during their lives.

Friday was Alumni Day at Spring Valley High School. It’s part of our annual College Application Week in West Virginia. It was also a chance to break out my @SDState alumni sweatshirt, which feels a little loose on me. 😉

It’s College Application Week in West Virginia. So it’s time to give a shout out to my schools. 🪓 🐇

I hit pedagogical paydirt yesterday. My 11th-grade Contemporary Studies students were learning about the Women’s Suffrage movement, and I had them come up with counter-arguments to statements made by anti-suffragists. The responses were insightful and well thought-out. 😊

If you feel triggered by this, good. You need to do some self-refection. As Marcus Aurelius wrote many centuries ago, “Your soul takes on the color of your thoughts.”

Inflammatory take of the day… when leaders and their followers start talking about “owning” groups of people, I wonder if they wouldn’t like to repeal certain Amendments… like the 13th Amendment.

Since many states are requiring “In God We Trust” to be posted in schools and classrooms, I suggest this poster also be displayed… to serve as balance.
