here is an update on 🏈. Members of MIAA FB com presented ideas on how to play 🏈 this past week to State officials, DESE & EEA. This included the new full face shield, mouth pieces attached to facemask & the use of gloves. It also covered reduction in contact drills.

The state released updated EEA guidelines for sports today. Football will be allowed to play in the Fall-2 season.
The MIAA BOD voted in August to move 🏈 to the Fall-2 season so T-Days will not happen, but this is good news for winter sports and everyone in Fall 2!

NEW: I’m signing an Executive Order to allow contact drills and practices, and competitions, to resume today for high-risk sports.
Practices must be held at outdoor venues ONLY. All sports will have to abide by a number of health and safety protocols.

Opting not to allow out of season coaching is a mistake. The privileged will seek private options and others will have nothing. Regardless of the sport, kids need contact with their coaches for emotional health!! This is not equitable or wise

We need to fix this now. 3 years a true D3 has faced a monster D1 program, Enough!!!!
Springfield Central handles Duxbury, 38-13, in the D3 Super Bowl.
We have one more year of Central (enrollment over 2k) in D3 before re-alignment and likely a statewide tournament.
Current format simply unfair to EMass D3 schools.

MHSFCA would be fine with spring football but would like to see some Fall workouts and a combine for seniors to help with recruiting. This can be done within the EEA standards
It’s 4th and 3 on your own 25. Other team has 1 timeout. You’re up by 2 with :50 left in the game. What’s the call? Apparently, most people want to go for it (play FB in the fall) instead of punting and increasing your chances to win (FB in spring). 🤦♂️

If players wear an eye shield & new lower shield on the helmet, attach the mouth peice to the face mask to avoid hands on it along with gloves you could agrue football is as safe as any other sport. We need experts to weight in
From a football standpoint — if football were to be allowed this fall it would almost certainly be a change that takes place at the last possible moment. The difference between high risk and moderate risk for football is bigger than any other sport.

Quarterfinals week 10

The MIAA was asked by Gillette Stadium to move our games 4 the Revs.
The MIAA FB committee was presented 2 options. Both kept the games at Gillette. The MIAA FB Committee voted for the option out in the media.
We expect to play 12 min qrts now.

We are sad to hear of the passing of Coach Silva. Terry for several years served on our executive board traveling more than an hour each way to help our game. It’s no surprise, with that kind of dedication that he touched so many in Gloucester. Our condolences to his family.
Sad news to report out of Gloucester. Former GHS football coach Terry Silva has passed away. Silva was a coaching legend, the program’s all time wins leader and 3 time super bowl champ. Just as great of a person as he was a coach.
