On the first anniversary of his passing, Chief John Carnegis’ legacy lives on through the John Carnegis Academic Achievement Award. Libertytown VFD member Madelyn Prabe is the first recipient, honored for her success in the high school internship program.

On an 11,000-acre site and under 19 hours of sunlight, MFRI instructors are instructing in Alaska at Clear Space Force Station. Service members at the station monitor for intercontinental ballistic and sea-launched missiles, and detect and track 30,000+ space objects daily.

MFRI recently hosted members of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority. The delegation toured MFRI headquarters, gaining insights into our training capabilities and the broad scope of class offerings.

Firefighter 1 students at MFRI headquarters continue to brave the heat, tackling hands-on training. The future firefighters are developing essential skills including ladder operations, tying hoisting-tool knots, and forcible entry techniques.

Eighteen students from across the state are completing their second week of Firefighter 1 at MFRI. Taking a rigorous six-week accelerated course, training has focused on building construction, fire dynamics, personal protective equipment, and self-contained breathing apparatus.

MFRI Instructor and Acting Southern Maryland Regional Training Center Coordinator Ed Rachinskas was honored with the Francis L. Brannigan Instructor of the Year Award. A MFRI instructor for more than 15 years, Ed has logged nearly 4,000 hours of teaching time.
