One step closer to #xenotransplantation. On a smart approach, a mutated pig kidney was implanted into a brain-dead patient & the kidney functioned for 54 hours. Hopefully, very soon, we will be seeing a clinical trial w/pts on dialysis on the awaiting list

A kidney grown in a genetically altered pig functions normally, scientists reported. The procedure may open the door to a renewable source of desperately needed organs.

To all members who contacted their congressional representatives: THANK YOU! The #immunobill was passed in the senate and after decades of advocacy from AST and other organizations, will be making its way to the President’s desk to be signed in to law!

Did you know one person can donate up to 8 lifesaving organs? That includes kidneys (2), liver, lungs (2), heart, pancreas, and intestines. To learn more, please visit: https://t.co/ko7Xwvokue

And it's official! The US House passes the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act on unanimous consent. The legislation will now be considered by the Senate, where it is expected to receive similar support. #Kidney #Immuno #transplant

The aim of this paper is to discuss the different eras of immunosuppression and highlight the important milestones that were achieved while also discussing this in the context of rational agent selection and regimen design. https://t.co/Lef7LTSLuq

Feeling stressed out by the election? You’re not alone. If it helps at all, anxiety is a sign that you care deeply about something. Ultimately it comes from a place of love. When I feel sick with worry, I try to remember that it’s better than feeling nothing in the face of evil.

Don't reach for meds first when dealing with ICU delirium!
Had a person in the #MICU whose delirium improved once we started playing John Coltrane & Miles Davis. Turns out he’s a big jazz fan. This is why social history is so important. “The patient” is not the same as human being in front of you. You have to know both to be effective.
