Muddy Creek Falls has finally thawed out this week as Western Maryland experienced a bit of a warm-up.

Posting earlier this year due to rapid snowmelt. Warmer temps and saturated ground can seriously damage natural surface trails. If you’re leaving more than a few footprints or tracks per mile, it’s not a good day to go. Consider heading out early while trails are still frozen.

The boat ramps and fishing piers are currently closed at Smallwood State Park due to ice damage. The extent of the ice damage is still being assessed, but once the facilities are repaired they will be reopened. Thank you for your understanding!

The Skiing by Candlelight event at New Germany on Saturday, February 14 has been cancelled due to icy conditions. It will be rescheduled as a Hiking by Candlelight event in March.
