@TheQuadram We particularly love Dr. Lund’s early work on the low-temperature growth of Listeria in the presence of spoilage organisms, using Listeria isolated from many food types that are now commonly implicated in outbreaks. #WomenInScience @TheQuadram

Today is also about acknowledging the pioneering #WomenInScience @TheQuadram. Dr Barbara Lund's work on Listeria in the 80's and her leadership, creativity and foresight continues to inspire us now, and makes our studies possible.

Listeria is one of the few foodborne pathogens where the true GI incidence is a mystery - largely because we only isolate it from invasive cases. This important study shows it is commonly found in the gut, and how this state might affect selection of Listeria’s virulence genes.
