In the early 90s I used to go to all the #Pompey reserves games. It was a great place to see the likes of Anderton, Powell, Awford, Symons, play with a mix of experienced pros & learn. Last night showed without competitive football, the depth in our squad is powderpuff.

100 years ago this summer #Pompey put itself hugely in debt with a bank loan, to rebuild the entire south side of the ground & add 8,000 to the ground’s capacity in the process. Not all debt is bad, if the money is used to grow the asset. What a long-term investment that was.
Our @forbes report reveals @Pompey has the strongest financial structure in its 127-year history with no debt and net assets of £26.5m thanks to @michael_eisner and @eric_eisner. Since Tornante bought it in 2017 its cash reserves have risen 16.3% to £3.1m.

As someone who has always had a dark sense of humour, I’ve got a lot of time for this fella at the moment. He’s absolutely nailed this. 👏🏼👏🏼.
Talk about not backing down even slightly…. this is fucking brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏👏 #andrewlawrence Legend! @andrewlawrence

1/2 Who remembers this Easter Monday #Pompey game v Watford back in 1989? Pompey had been rotten since Christmas under new manager John Gregory. Transfer deadline day signings John Beresford, Steve Wigley & (loan) John Moncur, saw Pompey race into a 2-0 lead v high flying Watford

#Pompey have drawn just 1 of their last 22 games. 3 in 26 which stretches back to that first home win v Preston. The 0-0 draw at home to Burnley being the only draw since the 0-0 at home v Norwich on 10th Dec. Last draw on the road was Swansea over 4 months ago.

Sky & ITV scrutinising the Ritchie incident is exactly why we were pushed by TV to have VAR. No one in the ground thought it was anything inc. the Leeds players. The ref’s not at fault, he gave it as he saw it live, the TV forensic scrutiny from every angle is the issue. #Pompey.

Well the omens were good!! . #Pompey won, Dozzell scored and there was a stoppage time goal as well. Thank you The Big Match Revisited from 23rd Dec 1984!! 💙.
This morning’s The Big Match Revisited on ITV4 was from Dec 23rd 1984 and featured as its last game #Pompey v Oxford. That amazing ‘Father Christmas’ 2-1 win. Man U v Ipswich also featured a young Jason Dozzell. Any omens for today? 🤔💙.

Great to see Leicester suffer a blatant offside last night. It’ll have no impact on their ‘what if’ history in the way Ormondroyd’s ‘goal’ against #Pompey was, but nice all the same. I’ll always hate Leicester due to that season’s league game at Fratton & then those play offs.

Not getting this #Pompey meltdown. As a club we’ve always been crap on the road - especially in the upper divisions. Most of our 1988-03 stint in this Div was built on home results bailing out away day shockers. Even under Jim Smith. Why are people suddenly surprised by this?.

#Pompey 1st 14 games where we competed in away games getting draws at Leeds, Boro, narrow loss at Burnley & win at QPR. P14 W1 Pts 9. Next 14 targeting home games P14 W6 Pts 20. Compelling stats for targeting home games. Expect the same for Sheff Utd for the sake of Cardiff (H).

This big #Pompey question about home form v away form. Hasn’t it always been the case that we’ve largely been very good at home & pretty iffy away, especially in the upper divisions?. 80s Alan Ball side, Jim Smith’s early 90s side. Both largely reliant on dominant home form.
