A lot of Lyles lack of Sam is purely because he over thinks his socalization with Sam That he never took any of the chances given to him, Sam probably just assumed Lyle wasn’t intrested in him as a person and pulled away.

And finally for what I can remember as of now 18. Lyle and Sam were actually pretty close friends, it’s just Lyle let it decay into only a work thing because he was scared of getting “too close” to Sam socially, so he actively avoided any chances of meeting outside of work-
