The president is 73. His opponent is 77. The Speaker of the House is 80. The Senate Majority Leader is 78. The average age of the House is 58, in the Senate it is 62--one of the oldest Congresses in U.S. History. Stop thinking this isn't part of the problem.
For real change in America, we need a MASSIVE generational shift. The younger generations cannot continue to be pawns in the culture wars of old folks.
Young people cannot end or fix racism overnight. But I promise you, we can do a much better job than these elderly leaders that don't understand the moment, weigh us down with their baggage and won't get the hell off the stage.
Rep. Sensenbrenner asks about Donald Trump, Jr's account being taken down: "Why did that happen?"
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg: "Congressman, first to be clear, I think what you might be referring to happened on Twitter. So, it's hard for me to speak to that."

Term limits are the simple solution. Two terms in the Senate. 6 terms in the House. 12 years total. That’s all they get. No lobbying jobs after getting out of government either.

@CasperVDean
No, the problem is too many young people don't have the slightest understanding of or interest in our democracy, aren't politically engaged or aware, don't vote & don't run for office. I'm happy to vote for a young person if provided with opportunity.

@cinemosity
If it were only that simple, Luke. That's where you show your age with a naivete that is still searching for the straight line leading to the easy answers.
Ivanka Trump
Jared Kushner
Steven Miller
Sarah Sanders
Marco Rubio
Tom Cotton and on and on

Luke .... problem is the money involved.
A poor or non rich person who would want to make a change and be heard cannot do that because of no funds for them to run and get on the ballot. Maybe the fundamental value of how people are elected changed. Advancements can be made.

@JamieOGrady
You’re harping on this take, lad. Seems to be your mission. What about the wisdom of elders? And the folly of youth? You don’t need “new math” to fix centuries old problems.
@LukeRussert
When young people want to disparage a Supreme Court nominee bc he rolled on top of a woman in high school, you get what you deserve. Then when she picks up 900k on the way out the door and you say nothing you lose all credibility.
@LukeRussert
These people were not selected by some kind of a dictatorship, voters elected them, they all had younger opponents and yet voters decided to choose these elected officials. Let democracy do it’s thing. There is enough undermining of democracy coming from the right.
