If you coach at the junior high level or higher, I'd encourage you to take 30 minutes to do this activity with your team. We plan to make time for some of the athletes to share these experiences in front of the whole team if they are willing to. It's about more than sports.

- When I tore my ACL and meniscus - When I found out my stepdad was facing 5-10 years in prison - I've been working at a restaurant since I was 12 to help out financially - My 6 month old baby sister passed away - My mom died when I was 12 - My dad left when I was 8

- "Right now I feel mentally tired and drained... home feels [like] just a place I visit and school feels like work... I wear a mask in both places." - After my parents started using drugs I had to be separated from my siblings and move here to live with my aunt and uncle

- my grandparent's house got shot up when I was in 5th grade - my dad abused and cheated on my mom, so we had to move here to live with my mom's family

- my dad recently got diagnosed with Parkinson's and the medication caused him to get really angry - when I was in 2nd grade my 5th grade sister drowned when we were playing in a stream

We often have no idea what our athletes have been through! We have 35 8/9 grade boys in our basketball program, and we asked them a simple question: "Tell us about a time when you went through something challenging in your life." Here are just a few of the things they wrote👇
