Talking in #mediation can seem a challenge. It's easier to hide behind other's words. But with the right tools good changes can be made.

Compassionate is the 4th C of effective communication and often the hardest. This is compassion in its simplest form. Seeing the person through your child's eyes as their other parent can help to bring a little more compassion than you might have for your ex. #singleparents

The third C of effective communication is Conscious and this graphic sums up what we mean. Too often important conversations start by accident without each person having had chance to think about how they want the discussion to go. Or it happens at the wrong place or time.

The second of our 4 Cs of effective communication is constructive. This is often about the language you use and how you approach conversations. It's not about anybody changing who they are. Co-parents who take the time to ensure they each feel heard often fare better.

Can any followers of this account help us with finding academics who have studied the impacts of #domesticabuse on children?
Bit of help please? We are looking for academics who have looked in-depth at the outcomes for children impacted by living in households with parental #domesticviolence #domesticabuse Any names spring to mind? Many thanks...

Louisa, Emma and Michelle would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. If your Christmas hasn't gone as well as you would have liked what can you change next year? What can you do differently? #familymediation

Who is up for a little laugh in the dark mist of #separation? Sometimes it's helpful to plant the seeds of your new life and centre these around small things you won't miss, or small things you'd like to do that you couldn't before. So what seeds are you planting? #divorce

It's not easy facing your 1st (or even your 9th) Christmas without your children. Making a plan for what you're going to do helps you to fill the time and distract yourself a little from missing them. But it also reassures your children that you have things to do & will be OK.

They really don't have to. There is a way that is focused on effective communication & productive discussions. You don't need to be super friendly. Consider approaching a family mediator in the New Year for help. #copingwithdivorce #lifeafterseparation #familymediation

If you're thinking you will be dealing with #separation related issues in 2025 then it helps to think in stages, & to break down big tasks into manageable steps. Identifying the help you'll need is a good first step. Discussion will be essential to identify potential solutions.

If you're beating yourself up today about all the things you haven't yet done or where you could have been "more" then we invite you to: Pause Breathe Look at all the good things you've done and are grateful for AND THEN go about your day being kinder and softer to yourself.
