On Wed 18 June, we’re meeting with the Children’s Commissioner ( @ChildrensComm). We’ll be looking at issues relating to children’s public services including, children’s care housing, SEND funding and her work so far.

Other recommendations include improving the quality and consistency of the data gathered relating to interpreting in the courts, improving existing mechanisms for stakeholder engagement, and the publication of assessment data for court interpreting from the next report date on.

Using the principles and milestones outlined in the Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan, the MOJ should develop and publish a funded roadmap for the introduction of AI tools for interpreting in public services within six months.

The current system creates perverse incentives for court interpreters to work outside the main contracted system, due to issues with pay and terms and conditions. We urge the government to improve working conditions for interpreters.

In October, we published our report: The transition from education into work for young disabled people. The report found that young disabled people want to participate in initiatives that directly affect their opportunities and futures.

The Government should affirm its support for rolling out more Individual Placement and Support and Universal Support services, take steps to improve the specialist support people can get through Jobcentre Plus, and take action to cut Access to Work waiting times.
