Heading home after six weeks at @LongPointBirdOb lots of cool birds passed through my grubby mits (catching 19 Northern Flickers at once in large mesh hawk nets is not to be recommended though...)

Wow what a find this morning by volunteer Gaelen… while doing morning census at the Tip he spotted this Vermillion Flycatcher. This is only the 4th for Norfolk and well out of its range! @BirdsCanada @ofobirds @BirdsCanada_ON 📷 Caillie Monrad

Attention #birdbanders !! ⚠️ This is often the unfortunate end result of Scaly Mite infections in migratory birds. Wash your hands, clean and isolate equipment that comes in touch with infected individuals. @BirdInTheBand

New to the LPBO Wall of Science: Using migration data collected at five of North America’s longest running observatories, Dr. DeSimone and colleagues determined that relationships between species may help to shape their ecology during migration. https://t.co/e0DaQRaB35

A Yellow-billed Cuckoo heralding the close of our Breakwater Research Station for any other successful season. It’s always hard to close a station as the migrants and surprises continue to trickle in. 🎥 Nelson Contardo @BirdsCanada

The sparrow plopped into the water where it was surely game over. But, no... it picked itself up out of the water and powered it’s way to land. The name of our hero... A Lincoln’s Sparrow! @birds.canada @vortexcanadabirding

A story of perseverance and resilience comes from the Tip this morning. Watched a sparrow coming in off the lake only for it to reach within 20 metres of the shoreline before it was pounced on by some marauding Bonaparte’s Gulls weighing in at 16x their target prey).

I think I’ve found my new favourite way to do a #birdathon! High birding to travel ratio, low carbon footprint, high new bird to time ratio, and still lots of time for family and chorin. 6 hours. 140 species. All donations to support @longpointbirds https://t.co/cewFMk7zhW
