A director comes out with a movie about a black gay teenager coming out of the closet. The Hispanic gays start protesting asking why the movie didn't feature Hispanic representation and Hispanic gay characters Does that make sense to you?

Nobody is telling you to choose between blackness and queerness. We're pushing back on the notion that a moment of black achievement is somehow inadequate because it didn't feature the queer experience.

Nobody is telling you to choose between anything, but going with this logic, this is saying that black cis people shouldn't celebrate a movie about black trans women since that wouldn't represent their experience and it's not representing the full black community

And then LASTLY if he DID cast some gay characters, would yall gays still be up in arms about it not having lesbian or trans representation? Would you still be fighting for queerness and "full representation"? Just say you wanted a character for yourself
One thing that is obvious in this whole Sinners convo silliness is that Black LGBTQ people are expected to uplift Blackness at the expense of our Queerness. The whole talking point from hetero, and some queer, ppl gives “You’re Black before you’re Queer” 🤷🏽♂️

This silly logic can be applied to ANY art. Noah's Arc didn't represent lesbians enough. Pose didn't represent trans women with disabilities enough. Every show is not going to cover every intersection of every demographic. But y'all are acting like anything black must cover LGBT.

Especially when the type of representation yall are asking for is a hollow type of representation that every LGBTQ person does not even feel seen by. Y'all are asking for Vogue scenes, what about the queer people who don't feel represented by that?

Particularly when this conversation is only even happening because Sinners is at a point where it's very culturally relevant, if it was not winning awards, and Ryan Coogler was not being talked about as the hottest director, yall would not be feeling slighted.

You people are acting absolutely insane. You are not being asked to choose between queerness and blackness by recognizing that every filmmaker is not here to represent your specific experience.

The same person who was crying about Chuy Garcia is now celebrating a billionaire buying a nomination. As I said at the time, the issue with Chuy Garcia was never democracy, these racist white liberals were just mad they couldn't pick the nominee.
progressives + black voters were a strong coalition for Stratton tonight and she has Pritzker to thank for her likely win She didn't get any love from Khive world and the congressional black caucus did everything to undermine her

Well, yes because this idea that they were just supporting Jasmine because she was a black woman was always racist projection from you people. They supported Jasmine because they liked her for who she is and wanted to defend her from the racist to attack from people like you.

Even if he is insecure about his sexuality, this boy is 21 years old and y'all have been speculating on his sexuality and commenting sexual shit on his tweets since he was a teenager. Yall grown ass adults are the ones creating pressure around his sexuality.

It being a blind spot implies it's something he would naturally be talking about, why on earth would he be talking about that more than any other subject? Why is that his blind spot and not the representation of Afro Latinos? Or any other random ass demographic?
Coogler's one consistent blind spot is queerness and it's not out of bounds to say so. I'm sure it's not intentional, but I hope over time he'll integrate it more thoroughly into his worlds. he's only on #5, but that's still four missed chances. WF came with gays built in lol.

Girl, just because you wrap yourself in some online queer personality calling yourself "cunt" and being obsessed with ballroom that doesn't mean other people are self hating because they don't want your small idea of queerness. Y'all want stereotypical ass characters.

Then let him come out and do that on his own instead of imagining what he would say
im fighting back at the "leave coogler alone he can make what he wants" people because Ryan Coogler is so receptive to feedback and if u asked him if he wanted to tell queer stories I know he would say yes. so why are u fighting for his right not to

There is no "rule" of blackness, nobody in real life follows these social media rules yall come up with and that's part of where the confusion is coming from. This doesn't mean queerness is essential to every story involving a black person.

Yall have a very limited and reductive idea of representation, every queer person doesn't feel represented by ballroom. Yall say "queer culture" when you really just mean ballroom. Which some argue is stereotypical and makes lgbt people look like caricatures and clowns.
Like not to be #THAT person but opinions of the movie aside, I want everyone to be really honest. Voguing was left out of that dance sequence intentionally. It wasn’t an “oversight.” In 2026, after ballroom has been EVERYWHERE (even where it doesn’t even make sense), it was left

How many gay artists have Chloe and Halle let feature on their music
yall saying Coogler can’t imagine an afrofuturistic society with gay people in it even tho they exist in the original material and black gay people who actually existed in the past even just dancing but can imagine vampires invading the time traveling party that has Crip walking
