A big reason I don't go to Target despite one being within a five minute walk is that they lock their deodorant behind glass & do not staff enough people to get it unlocked within a 10 minute timeframe. So I go to Rite Aid, where they allow you to get the deodorant yourself.

This is exactly backwards — the American dream was never predicated on credentialization until recently. The better goal here is not to make higher education “affordable” but to decouple it from middle class aspirations entirely.
I believe that college should be a ticket to the middle class, not a burden that weighs people down with debt for decades to come.
