PLAYOFF TIME IN TENNESSEE: Round one of the TSSAA playoffs kicked off Thursday night and we had several local teams in action. Sequatchie County turned an early 14-0 first quarter lead into a 41-7 win over Brainerd.

POWER FOUR LOSS: The Chattanooga women’s basketball team dropped its first road contest of the season, falling 94–52 to the Florida Gators on Thursday evening at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

SEASON-OPENING DUB: The Chattanooga Mocs women's basketball team cruised to an 82-34 victory over the King Tornado on Monday afternoon in McKenzie Arena. UTC used a 26-6 second quarter to take full control after an early see-saw battle.

500 WINS AT MCKENZIE: After celebrating last season’s historic NIT championship run with a pre-game ceremony, the Chattanooga Mocs opened the new campaign with a 92-39 victory over Union Commonwealth (Ky.) on Monday evening inside McKenzie Arena.

DISMISSED: Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell announced Sunday that she has dismissed senior guard Ruby Whitehorn from the eighth-ranked Lady Vols, saying it was her responsibility to protect the program’s high standards.

ANOTHER L: The Tennessee Titans offense couldn't finish drives, the defense had trouble slowing down the Chargers and the team hurt itself with too many penalties and mistakes. It all added up to a 27-20 loss, which dropped the team to 1-8 on the season.

TOUGH ONE: The Atlanta Falcons had late comeback opportunities to win on the road in Week 9, but ultimately lost 24-23 to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The Falcons have now lost three games in a row, dropping to 3-5 overall.
