Disappointed that arrivals caps will be halved by 50% - stranded citizens and residents already the carrying the primary burden of Australia’s covid response. Where there has been governmental error, the burden has been consistently placed on private citizens. I explain why here:

My brief on repatriation rights for @Government_UoM . I discuss the limited protection that Australia’s legal system provides for citizens stranded abroad + limits of political mechanisms (cf rights-based mechanism) to ensure measures are proportionate where they are popular. /1

The trial for home quarantine is welcome, but concerning that there are no targets, dates or firm commitments regarding the short- and medium-term. Similar concerns for commitment to allow travel for vaccinated Australians here.

@LizHcks I don't understand the reduction by 50%. If they really felt it was essential to cut the number of high-risk travelers, maybe? But why cut the number of vaccinated low-risk travelers? Those numbers could easily be increased through home quarantine or less rigid Hotel Q.

@KrauthBen It will become unavailable for many commercial airlines to continue operating and I expect the states know this.
