One of the oldest clubs in the country, Maidstone’s many attributes include one of the most beautiful clubhouses in golf (designed by Roger Bullard in the 1920s), a terrific beach club, and one of the best little halfway houses that you’ll find anywhere. Oh, and one of the most

The 16th at North Berwick Golf Club. Ever wonder how a mid-length, dead straight, pancake-flat, fairway bunkerless par-4 can be one of the most interesting holes in the world?. This is how.

Just a little nighttime daydreaming about Point Hardy Golf Club, the brand new Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw design at Cabot Saint Lucia. Been three months since I spent a few days here, and it’s been stuck in my brain ever since. I’m still not sure if I’ve ever played a more

As I’ve been posting all of these Fife gems this past week, I’ve gotten a lot of requests for Kingsbarns Golf Links. This 25-year-old Kyle Phillips design sits along the edge of the Firth of Forth about 7 miles south of St. Andrews, on land that was once occupied by an ancient 9

About a week later and Carnoustie is still rattling around in my head. Even putting the extraordinary history aside, there’s just so much great golf here to love. A few favorites:. The opener, Cup, with its blind approach. The short par-4 3rd, Jock’s Burn, with its eponymous

A brief interlude from Scotland with a look back two weeks ago to Ballyneal, one of the most “Scotland-like” courses in the U.S. A Tom Doak design, sandy dunes everywhere, a kick-ass par-3 course, a great vibe, a terrific hang, a beautiful golf dog (pictured) and a couple of big

On first sight, Elie Golf Club immediately became, and will always and forever be, one of my favorite places for a day of golf. 12 miles due south of St. Andrews in East Neuk, Fife, the third-oldest golf course in the world has been entertaining and confounding golfers since the

If you go 12 miles southeast of St. Andrews, on Fife Ness at the easternmost point of Fife, you’ll find the Crail Golfing Society, and you’ll be glad you did. One of the oldest golf clubs in the world, Crail owns and operates two courses here: the ancient Balcomie Links, where

Here’s a course at the home of golf that I can - and will - call a hidden gem: the Kittocks Course at the Fairmont St. Andrews. Located between the Castle Course and Kingsbarns and set on the same rugged, clifftop coastline, the Kittocks is every bit as much a visual stunner as

The Jubilee Course at St. Andrews is the 3rd oldest of the 7 courses at the Home of Golf, and it’s terrific. Built as a 12-hole course in 1897 and named for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee that year, it was expanded to 18 holes in 1905. The course occupies the land directly

Sunrise shots from the Home of Golf. Since I did the dusk shots, it seemed only right to do some dawn shots too. This particular 4:25am show was worth the pain of getting up early. This lesson here is that St. Andrews is just spectacular at any time of day or night.
