AGE-FRIENDLY MUNICIPALITY — Essex MPP Anthony Leardi presented an Age-Friendly Award to #Amherstburg town council at the March 9 meeting. Leardi made the presentation to Mayor Michael Prue and council members on behalf of Minister of Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho.

Other members of Council and I have been receiving questions regarding a potential development in the Golfview neighbourhood. At this time, no planning applications have been submitted to the Town, and therefore the specific location has not been identified.

Proud to see Amherstburg recognized as an Age-Friendly Community by Ontario’s Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, @RaymondChoPC. Thank you to MPP @AnthonyLeardiPC for his continued support of initiatives that help make our community more welcoming and accessible for seniors.

The Heritage Committee meets this Thursday at 5:30pm. One of the key items is a Heritage Alteration Permit application for 261 Wolfe Street, proposing a four-storey multi-residential infill project within the Heritage Conservation District.

Tomorrow at 6pm, Council will be considering proposed Official Plan and zoning changes for 250-258 St. Arnaud Street to allow an additional 8-unit residential building on the property. The proposal would add more rental housing through intensification.

A statutory public meeting will be held tomorrow at 5pm regarding the proposed River’s Edge Phase III development north of Brunner Ave (10 single detached homes and 38 townhouses). Public comments will be received before any future Council decision.

Honoured to attend today’s celebration marking the construction of the new Erie Shores Residence in Amherstburg. Glad to join Minister Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, MPP Anthony Leardi, my Council colleagues & the Arch and Riverdale Living teams to mark this important milestone.

2/ He also expressed interest in learning more about Amherstburg’s funding needs. I’ll be continuing this conversation to help bring provincial investment to Amherstburg.

1/ Premier @fordnation gave me a call this evening. He shared that economic development is a top priority following the Diageo closure, and that Minister @VictorFedeli is closely monitoring the situation.

Council received an update on Additional Residential Units (ARUs/ADUs) in Amherstburg. Since 2020, permits have remained relatively low. That trend may shift soon. Many newer homes are now being designed to allow future internal ARUs.

Amherstburg recently received communication from the Town of LaSalle confirming that they do not have the time, resources, or capacity to extend their police service to our municipality. The remaining options include partnering with the OPP or re-establishing our own service.
