Nothing new here. Every few years, Driving Licence fraud in SA makes headlines, yet it's happening every day. And almost every day there are reports about horrific crashes. Connect the DoTs.

It beggars belief that there are still Testing Centres in SA that conduct learners licence tests manually! The Dept of Transport promised the roll out of biometrically accessed computerised learners licence testing in its 2001 "Road to Safety Strategy". 21 YEARS AGO!!!.
Three officials, an Examiner of licences, a traffic officer, an examiner of vehicles were given #sentences ranging from R600 to two years imprisonment. The examiner was arrested at #Temba DLTC after she wrote a learner licence test on behalf of applicant who was in BFN.

All the more reason for the @TrafficRTMC to prioritise the roll out of EFFECTIVE computerised learners licence testing systems to the many driving licence testing centres that are still conducting learners tests using paper, pencils, books and stencils. Like in the 1980s.

A R10 000 fine, or a few months in prison won't be suitable punishment for these crooks. They should be charged as accessories to murder when the incompetents they issued licences to cause fatal crashes on our roads.

"Suspect had a stack of driving licence cards" . Do the maths. At even R2000 per licence X 10 licences per day X 20 days per month, these crooks can net R400 000 per month. A lucrative, tax free revenue stream. Enough to even buy off those responsible for fighting corruption?.

Just read the replies to this tweet! Shocking but not surprising that so many people can quote the cost of "buying" a licence, or feel they have no other option. Just wonder how many drivers on our roads lack even the basic skills tested in learners & driving tests.
