I am not a Covid denier. Covid is a huge problem. But I am extremely sceptical about the government’s approach to Covid and I am concerned about the collateral damages of lockdowns. And yet, whenever I say this, I am subjected to huge amounts of cancel culture vindictive abuse.

The issue with the arts is that @BorisJohnson and the Cabinet clowns see it as high end occasional entertainment for them and their rich chums, and are blind to its economic significance, let alone the educational, cultural and progressive power of the arts for the disadvantaged

Buying bikinis online is such a chore. Retailers separateout the tops and bottoms and don’t even put them close to each other, so you have to trawl through and scroll back to find them. And then discover they don’t have your size in both. Then accidentally buy 2 botts and no top

I really wish I wasn’t British or living in Britain. Up until four years ago I was proud to be British and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

Went for a picnic with a friend on the Meadows yesterday - was shocked to see many large groups of teenagers not social distancing at all, in fact quite a few of them in physical brawls. Young people have certainly decided that lockdown is over already

Yet again I’m in a socially distanced queue on a narrow pavement with people walking past with less than one metre between the queue and them. The other side of the road is empty but no one bothers to cross #socialdistancing #lockdownrules #ironic

Here is the definition of a statue. It is totally neutral. It doesn’t say a person has to be a saint to be depicted in marble or stone. Being able to reflect on our history and debate the values of the past doesn’t mean we have to destroy art or evidence.

So should we take down every statue of anyone who has ever done bad things? Since when was a a statue redfefined as a shrine to a saint? Why don’t people just educate themselves and live with it.

(1) So, the 14 day quarantine regs. How do they affect your summer holiday plans? Your work? Let me explain. And let me explain some surprising features of the rules.

I'm old enough to remember when the government said wearing masks made no difference, quarantine was not necessary to stop the spread of the virus, and keeping the death toll below 20,000 (The Germans have it at just over 8,000) would be 'a success.'

Why do social distancing laws not trump the right to protest in a state of emergency? Your voice can be heard online. Now is not the time to hit the streets

why is it people are up in arms about crowded beaches but not protests where people are crammed together for an extended period in a much more dangerous way? Whatever the cause, you are sending us back to square one with fighting the virus

It is also a nasty punishment to the public who have on the whole abided by the restrictions and now need a holiday to look forward to. No one can plan anything. It's demoralising.

It both destroys the tourist industry and restricts economic and business activity at a time when the government is trying to get the economy moving again.

Quarantine should have been implemented at the same time lockdown was, given that no one could work or travel then anyway no one would have lost out. To bring it in now just as lockdown is being eased feels like a slap in the face and makes no sense.
