On the territory of the former DDR there were three troposphere connectivity shelters BARS 301-"Tushurka", 302-"Siropnyi", 303-"Piroboy". In ourdays only Object-301 is saved as museum and placed on Sternkrug 4, Höhenland, Germany. 302 and 303 is disused and emptied.

There, radar information was filtered and then forwarded to the Air Defense Center (LFC), which was responsible for the overall situation and decided on the deployment of its own fighter aircraft. Photos: Benny Stoltz #coldwar

This is one of several facilities of the Radar Group Centre (RGC), which served as Sweden's air surveillance center since the 1960s as part of the so-called STRIL 60 system. RGC was linked to a number of radar stations in the air defense sector, for which the RGC was responsible.

The station’s receiver can run in self‑excited master‑oscillator mode or with quartz stabilization (usable on fundamental and second harmonic) across the full band. Its switch permits simplex via a shared antenna or half‑duplex second antenna. Sensitivity in CW mode is 5.5 ”V.

USSR spy HF portable radio station "Rion",produced from 1956, is used for simplex and half-duplex two-way communication. The radio station operates in a smooth frequency range from 2.5 to 10 MHz (transmitter) and from 2 to 12 MHz (radio receiver "PR-56"). #spyradio

By filtering the received signal with the original frequency, the radar can select moving targets. This principle is used in almost all radars, but in the case of OTHR it is significantly complicated due to the movement of the ionosphere itself. #othr

Since the signal reflected from surface is much more powerful than the signal reflected from the target, OTHRadars use systems that allow to select the useful signal. Simplest systems use the Doppler effect, in which a moving object changes the frequency of reflected radio waves.

Part of the radio signals, emitted into the ionosphere, are reflected and change direction. Upon reaching the ground, the reflected radio signals are scattered, while a small proportion of them may similarly reflect from the ionosphere and return to the radar.
