Koonin tells @thefp's @Maddie_Rowley_ "wind and solar can at best be an ornament" to a reliable energy system. Well, in 2024 wind and solar provided 17% of U.S. energy demand (more than coal). How about the UK? ≈ 34–35% Germany≈ 43% China≈ 18–19% That's not an ornament.

The fourteen authors represent scientific consensus on the high quality of climate science and the importance of climate action.

Koonin slams a recent paper bc it only has: "[O]ne graph and a lot of text, and is authored by 14 people over five pages. Come on! Let’s do serious science!" The graph (below) *is* serious science. It is an alarming distillation of millions of hours of data and research.

Koonin explains that his recent report is "not meant to be a complete survey assessment of climate science, nor would it be a recitation of the media narrative." That's a pretty questionable starting point. What if the media narrative is accurate?

"So is climate change real?" @TheFP's @Maddie_Rowley_ credulously asks? Yes Maddie. It's real. You might as well ask "so does gravity really exist?" Or "is the earth even round?" There is a point at which asking questions turns into willful obfuscation.

Next the @TheFP and @Maddie_Rowley_ note that "U.S. corn yields haven’t been hurt by rising temperatures" This is an odd data point. There are so many confounding factors (geography, improved irrigation practices, genetic engineering, etc.) it's effectively meaningless.
