PE owners typically sell within 3-7 years, making these exits a recurring feature of the PE investment cycle. The increase in turnover occurred despite most exiting practices being purchased by PE investors, who may offer financial incentives to encourage retention.

Physicians in PE-exiting practices were 16.5pp (27.5%) likelier to leave within two years post-exit vs. similar physicians in non-PE practices. Rather than retiring or going independent, they disproportionately joined large groups (>120 docs), accelerating market consolidation.
