We do not find Paul concerning himself with the size of churches or with questions about their growth. His primary concern is with their faithfulness, with the integrity of their witness.

If the biblical story does not control our thinking, then we will be swept into the story that the world tells about itself.

The church is not meant to call men and women out of the world into a safe religious enclave, but to call them out in order to send them back as agents of God's kingship.

A church that sees the cross of Jesus as the central event of history can never identify any political order with the reign of God.

If the biblical story is true, the kind of certainty proper to a human begin will be one which rests on the fidelity of God, not upon the competence of the human knower. It will be a kind of certainty which is inseparable from gratitude and trust.

The idea that the gospel is addressed only to the individual and that it is only indirectly addressed to societies, nations, and cultures is simply an illusion of our individualistic post Enlightenment Western culture

God could have chosen others, but he has chosen us. We cannot say why. But we know the wherefore: he has chosen us to be the bearers of his promise of blessing of all mankind.

Mission is an acted out doxology. That is its deepest secret. Its purpose is that God may be glorified.

The ‘secular’ society is not a neutral area into which we can project the Christian message. It is an area already occupied by other gods. We have a battle on our hands. We are dealing with principalities and powers.

Launch Day for "The Gospel Way Catechism" from me and @TweetingThomas_ Ultimately, the goal is not just to memorize a bunch of questions and answers. It’s to see all of life through the lens of Scripture so we’re faithful to the Lord in our time. https://t.co/S7TpPjz2wd

The Christian story told in the Bible needs to be taught alongside and even against the secular narratives of the day.

The sacralizing of politics, the total identification of a political goal with the will of God, always unleashes demonic powers.

The resurrection is the revelation to chosen witnesses of the fact that Jesus who died on the cross is indeed king - conqueror of death and sin, Lord and Savior of all. The resurrection is not the reversal of a defeat but the proclamation of a victory.

Through the repeated hammer blows of defeat, destruction, and deportation, interpreted by the faithful prophets, Israel has to learn that election is not for comfort and security but for suffering and humiliation.

The deepest motive for mission is simply the desire to be with Jesus where he is, on the frontier between the reign of God and the usurped dominion of the devil.
