A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for part of the region as we head through the day. A wintry mix will begin this morning changing to a wet snow for everyone as we head through the morning. 1-3" of snow is likely where some areas could get as much as 3-6".

Accumulating snow continues early this morning, but will begin to exit by mid morning. Dry conditions this afternoon with highs in the low to mid 30s. Watch for black ice early Saturday morning from some refreeze from today.

UPDATE: Snow arrives around the midnight hour in the western part of the region reaching to Roanoke area between 2-4am. It will head toward Lynchburg and the Southside after that. Mostly location will be in the 2-3" range with a few spots getting as much as 4".

We've gone ahead and issued a First Alert Weather Day on Friday. A storm system will approach the area overnight Thursday into Friday. It looks like we have enough cold air in place that this will be a mainly snow event. Light accumulating snow is looking likely.

If you want to check out the International Space Station head outside at 6:41 p.m. and look toward the west. You'll see a bright white dot cruising across the evening sky. It will be visible for about three minutes. Sky conditions should be great for viewing.
