May Workparty: 5 volunteers weeded and cut back the long grass around the wild flower patch today, planted wild garlic near the bridge and cleared viewpoints. Our next workparty is on Saturday, 14 June, 11am-1pm, weather permitting.

Volunteers tidied up the woodland at our regular February Workparty, and weeded the wild flower patch on 8th March, replacing the protective string and canes. Today, 5 volunteers returned to plant rowan, wild pear, damson, wild cherry and alder buckthorn bare-root whips.

Our next Workparty is this Saturday, 11th January, 11am - 1pm. We plan to cut back any large hazel branches on the periphery of the coppice that may be restricting light onto the coppiced area. 4 volunteers finished off the stakes and binders for hedgelaying at the December WP.

November Workparty: 8 volunteers started the coppicing, preparing bundles of stakes and binders, to be used in laying the hedge around the new burial ground at Leafield. Our next Workparty is on Saturday 14 December, 11am - 1pm, weather permitting. Everyone welcome.

Our next workparty is on Saturday 9 November, 11am - 1pm, weather permitting and refreshments provided. We plan to start the coppicing, so pruning / bow saws, loppers, secateurs and gloves useful. Everyone welcome.

October Workparty: 4 volunteers planted 100 bluebell bulbs, repollarded an ash tree, cleared the drainage ditch of sticks / leaves, and laid out 4 small butyl sheets, to see if they might provide a warm shelter for grass snakes.

Our next Woodland Workparty is this Saturday, 12 October, 11am - 1pm, weather permitting and refreshments provided. We hope to tidy the Woodland again, and plant bluebell bulbs. Everyone welcome, even for a short time.

September Workparty: 10 volunteers and dog tidied the Woodland, trimming viewpoints and stripping weeds from the wild flower patch.

August Workparty: 5 volunteers stripped grass and aggressive weeds from the wild flower patch, and sowed Yellow rattle seeds - Devil's bit scabious in flower. We also cut back brambles and nettles, and removed weeds along the entrance wall.

Squirrels have been in action, stripping almost all the bark from the main stem of Trafalgar Oak, during the last couple of weeks - they have enjoyed a sugar feast of sap, from just below the bark, but we may now lose a particularly special tree from our Woodland.

9 volunteers joined our July Workparty - we removed grass from the new wildflower patch, cleared viewpoints and nettles / overhanging branches from the path.

June Workparty: 7 volunteers replaced barbed wire in a damaged area of fence, to prevent sheep from entering the Woodland and eating the wild flowers. We also cut grass and cleared viewpoints.

March Workparty - 7 volunteers cleared mud from the base of the ditch and used it to make a shallow ramp down from the new bridge. We dressed the ramp with wood chippings, but it will need to dry out further before use, hence the diversion signs.

Our next Workparty is on Saturday, 9 March, 11am-1pm, weather permitting & refreshments provided. We hope to work on the new bridge, cutting the winding ditch deeper & using the excavated mud to make a gentle ramp down from the far end of the bridge. Spades and shovels useful.
