It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, but this survey I received in the mail from the Arbor Day Foundation has given me hours of enjoyment.

What companies are "donating" data for COVID related research that researchers would otherwise have to pay for?

I was hesitant to use it at first, because, you know, ANOTHER tool. But, so far it's been great, and best of all... the students like it!

This gets them primed to feel comfortable using this platform, so by week 3, they can use group-specific channels to share docs and have discussions that I can jump into and facilitate, if necessary.

I collect weekly feedback to learn what's working and what's not working. (With an emphasis to be constructive in their responses. Stating "It was hard" or "My internet connection was slow" is not necessarily actionable feedback.)

It's risky, yes, but I'm intent on sticking with it for now. This year, I added using Slack as a tool to communicate with students and I have to say, so far, it's great!

Giving a⭐️to @Slack: I have 115 students in my online class this semester. It has been designed from the start to be online, so, unlike others, I didn't have to transition it from in-person. For the past 2 years, to manage the high enrollment, I use group work.

What other universities are doing this?
Given the significant disruption to scholarly progress caused by our adjustment to #COVID19, all @OhioState tenure track faculty who are in their probationary period will be offered a 1-year extension to their tenure clock. Details to those faculty & their leaders forthcoming.

Seeing this happening with local restaurants and take-out. This strategy has its limitations, e.g., may not work in places without broadband access, but at least for the densely populated areas where stockouts are frequently happening. #IReallyDoNeedToiletPaper
