Much love to @FrameworkPuter for this first in the PC industry milestone! USB PD 3.1 EPR up to 180W, beating all of the big guys! Nice work @cmonkey and team!
Our latest Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive is on the custom ultra-efficient, high-density 180W USB-C Power Adapter we developed: https://t.co/wMiv3Wowlg We might unintentionally end up being the first company to ship a >140W USB-PD 3.1 power adapter?

I will never not praise @FrameworkPuter's USB-C charger design. It's one of the few bundled chargers from a laptop OEM that uses two international standard receptacles and replaceable cables on both ends. Another win for modularity and repairability!

Today, USB-IF released new updated versions of the USB4, USB PD, and USB Type-C specifications. They also announced the official branding, and I guessed right. Products with the new USB4 tech at the highest speed level now will be called "USB 80Gbps".

Really good Focus Friday for me today! Got to work directly with an open source maintainer and knocked out two bug fixes.

It's VASTLY better to just tell the consumer that this is USB 5Gbps, 10Gbps, 20Gbps, or 40Gbps. You lose a little bit of knowledge of the specifics of the underlying tech (USB 3.2 vs USB4), but most users won't know what to do with that info anyway.

And the words got all muddled together (since the speed levels were added one at a time), so you couldn't even tell which was faster relative to each other either. Only if you were steeped in the tech did you know that those meant 1.5, 11, 480, and 5000 mbps.

I think it's a good move to move away from "SuperSpeed USB" as a brand. It came from a past time when USB's intended language for data rates was "Low-Speed" "Full-Speed" "High-Speed" and "Super Speed". None of those words actually tell you the speed in absolute terms.

Nice reporting from @JonPorty at @verge on USB-IF's rebranding change that I also found a week or so back. USB has had branding challenges, and this implicitly acknowledges that. However, they are listening to consumers and improving. https://t.co/J3YqxtW19C via @Verge

Focusing entirely on data transfer and charging speeds.

Alright. Anyone who’s interested, here’s what Stadia was capable of. Playing @DestinyTheGame live right now.

There's just so much good engineering work that was done on Stadia at every level, all the way down to the hardware that the consumer holds. It's a real shame.

I'm really sad to see Stadia go, but I'll continue to use its controller hardware, as it's easily the most comfortable game controllers I've ever used. I've put in over 1000 hours in @DestinyTheGame on the Stadia controllers.

My Stadia story: I was consulted during the development of the Stadia controller on its USB-C implementation, and honestly, it's still one of the coolest implementations of an embedded USB-C port I've seen. It is a DRP/DRD that can charge itself and also host DAC headphones.

This morning I got around to doing some firmware updates of my devices! Upgraded the dock firmware on my @Dell WD22TB4, and the system firmware on my 11th gen @FrameworkPuter all from #fwupd in @ubuntu. Shout out to @hughsient for the excellent fwupd and LVFS!
