For someone very dear.

Such a difficult season, so I was delighted to be able to stage 10 vases at the NSPS Late National held at RHS Bridgewater. I managed to win best seedling, best lavender, best vase in show with ‘Dalesman’ and best exhibit in show.

The weather has taken its toll sadly.

On Sat. 5th July, the Yorkshire Sweet Pea Society will be hosting its 25th Show. The show opens to the public at 10.30am, with presentation of prizes and official opening at 12noon. Should anyone be interested in exhibiting, please DM for a copy of the schedule.

This is another new variety that is available from Roger Parsons Sweet Peas. This one is called ‘Karen Michelle’ and was bred by my late father. A magenta stripe on white, it flowers profusely and is great for garden decoration and cut flower.

Super proud that ‘Grandad Myers’ (bred by yours truly) is now available to buy from Roger Parsons Sweet Peas. Named by my daughters, just after their Grandad passed away in 2020, it possess all the qualities of being a top notch exhibition variety, and it has a good scent too.

Another new variety that I am working on. At this stage I would classify this as a purple. This one may take a few years before it’s ready, but has some potential.

A variety that always performs well for me. ‘Nora Holman’ isn’t the most readily available variety, and doesn’t have the strongest of scents, but for exhibition it’s a banker with excellent placement.

This one is ‘Hero’. Released by Unwins in 2010. Classed as a dark blue, it’s a variety that I grew for the first time this year and has done well for me. Not the strongest of scents but it is a striking colour and looks much darker when in a bunch.

Taken this summer, this is one of my seedlings that I’m developing. It starts out much paler and ages to this pale mauve colour. Every time I walked amongst my seed plants this summer.the more I liked it. Really keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

‘Heaven Scent’

Now my show season is over, it’s time to do some other Sweet Pea work. During the year I have been updating the slides that I use for talks that I do. In my talks I show to stage a vase for show. So this evening, I’ve been updating the slides, and this vase is the final result.

3 shows down, 1 to do. These are my entries at the Eckford Sweet Pea Society of Wem annual show being held this weekend.

This is my own seedling , to be called Grandad Myers. I am biased but it’s one of the best exhibition pale blues I have ever grown. Reliable, consistently well placed blooms. It has an excellent scent and works well with pastel pinks if you are wanting soft garden decoration.

Earlier this year, I came up with the madcap idea of doing 4 shows in 7 days. Today was the 2nd show at Driffield. A good day has been had, winning all 4 Sweet Pea awards.
