High neuraxial block in obstetrics: are we only seeing the tip of the iceberg? The presence of local anaesthetic in the epidural space makes the effect of subsequent intrathecal drug administration less predictable. #anaesthesia #obstetrics #pain #MedTwitter

https://t.co/JwPurVoRp0 Just published. High Neuraxial Blocks requiring ventilation/CPR. Incidence 14.7/100,000. Commonest cause = spinal after LEA (48%) of which 37% were after failed LEA conversions #OBAnes @Anaes_Journal @noolslucas @Marianfknight

Introduction High neuraxial block has been identified as a leading cause of maternal cardiac arrest in the UK. There is a need to investigate the potential risk factors and causes of high neuraxial...

The complete PRO position: “Sterile gowns SHOULD be mandatory for spinal #OBAnes” from @LateralTilt at #OAA25ASM - a #OBAnes 🧵
@LateralTilt kicks off the final session of #OAA25ASM by presenting the PRO side of the “Gowns should be mandatory for spinal #OBAnes” - a conflict of interest?

@LateralTilt @Assoc_Anaes @ANZCA @ASALifeline @ClaireAbeyseke1 Probably the crux of @LateralTilt’s argument in favour of mandatory sterile gowns use - would you want YOUR (or your child’s) spinal done with a gown? Would it matter to you? Or is the risk negligible? #OAA25ASM #OBAnes

@LateralTilt @Assoc_Anaes @ANZCA @ASALifeline A solid summary on the risk of CSF infection with NO sterile gown at #OBAnes spinal. Is the possibility of increased risk acceptable? (We don’t put spinals in below 50, hematology do) And, if our central ethos is improved care - avoiding preventable harm- why is it? #OAA25ASM

@LateralTilt @Assoc_Anaes @ANZCA @ASALifeline Here I think @LateralTilt makes a good point - role modelling/social influence - I only stopped gowning once I joined a unit in 🇨🇦. No one else was doing it, except for COVID. I wonder how much the pandemic shapes this debate? We all value asepsis or none do? #OAA25ASM #OBAnes

@OAAinfo @LateralTilt @antonchau1 provides background in CSE vs DPE debate: mixed bag of results. What’s new? Zang et al found NO difference between CSE & DPE with composite quality measure. Where to now? @Ron_George & @ruthi_landau - more CSE. @noolslucas & @LateralTilt - nuance is NB. #OAA25ASM

Worried X will get more raucous after November 5th? More difficult to have a conversation amidst the din? Too much noise not enough signal? Try ‘Twitter circa 10y ago’ lookalike on Bluesky. It’s a quiet room now but slowly filling up @lateraltilt.bsky.social

One in three mothers endure traumatic births. It happened to me “..for the next year, every Monday at 7.32am, I would stop whatever I was doing and cry. My daughter was born at 8.45am. But 7.32am?…” https://t.co/lJM9whCyRI
