The survey findings highlight the extent of harm from others’ drinking, and that individual, community and national level policies are needed to reduce alcohol-related harm to both people who drink and their social connections and families

People reported being emotionally neglected in relationships, dismissal of responsibilities, serious arguments, being threatened, called names, being pressured or forced into sexual activity or being physically hurt. And amenity impacts, financial difficulties & harms to children.

- 48.1% reported adverse effects from alcohol’s harms.- 7.5% reported having been 'harmed substantially'.- Women were more likely to be affected than men.- Younger people more so than older people.

In 2021 we surveyed 2,574 adults, asking them how they were impacted by the alcohol use of people they interacted with – friends, family, colleagues, strangers, partners, housemates. The impacts were widespread and often serious.
