Led by Oscar Benavides and @SabrinaVH_ , with a team of grad students and undergrads to make this happen over many years! .dECM scaffolds are amazing, but wouldn't it be better if we can actually see through its entire volume to map cell-biomaterial interactions? 😍.

This discovery was made possible with @CDMRP funding! Now that we know HOW low-grade inflammation persists, we're working on newer methods to target it (collabing with @nhc_nanomedlab) to improve the quality of life of Gulf War combat veterans!.

🛠️Usually, neural stem cells repair the circuitry of the gut!.🌪️Toxic exposure fuels low-grade inflammation in the gut, especially in its resident macrophage immune cells. 💢 Macrophages amplify inflammation around the neural stem cells - resulting in wonky re-wiring.

Combat veterans from the Gulf War 90-91 have debilitating gut symptoms - we first showed that enteric neural structure was seriously damaged in Gulf War Illness mice! .When the electrical wiring in your gut is unstable, it results in major diarrhea. 🤔But why does it persist?

Manuscript drop from the Raghavan Lab led by @ClaudiaConvo @bmentamu in @Co_Biologists @BiologyOpen : 🧩For years we've wondered why one-time toxic exposure during combat results in drastic gut symptoms decades after initial exposure! (1/4).
