Delighted to have been at the launch of this groundbreaking @LearnWorkUK report for @WestMids_CA in Birmingham this morning. Lots of ideas for developing and reimagining English language acquisition - and pleasing to see @NATECLA name-checked in the report. #ESOL #ESOLCapacity

We found: 🔍ESOL provision demand is outstripping supply 🔍Refugees, people seeking asylum, parents and employed learners are among those whose needs are not being met 🔍Benefits of provision include skills for everyday life, progression in work/learning and better wellbeing

1. New OECD adult basic skills shows ⬆️ in numeracy in England in last decade, little change in literacy. Within this, big & welcome improvements for young people (who were outliers last time), but some backsliding for older adults (perhaps a consequence of austerity in adult ed)

Great to be at launch of @OECD adult skills survey England scores above average for literacy and numeracy, and improvements in young people’s skills means that England is no longer an international outlier But there are still 8.5m working-age adults w/ low essential skills
