NASA announced the results of Step 1 of the Astrophysics Probe competition. Unfortunately @LEMXray was not selected. We want to thank our amazing Team of 300+ scientists, engineers, and program managers, administrators, who dedicated 2 years to developing the LEM concept! (1/2)

As we scan through the simulated bubble, the line profile on the right varies, revealing its complex velocity structure! A notable ‘double-horn’ feature emerges at the bubble’s center, caused by the opposing expansion of its near and far sides. ⬅️➡️ (2/2)

Need an example of the @LEMXray amazing capabilities? The X-ray tomography of @eROSITA_SRG bubbles! The left map shows an iron (FeXVII) line emission bubble in a #MilkyWay -like galaxy from the TNG50 simulation, resembling observed eROSITA bubbles. (1/2)

X-ray #spectroscopy is the key to solve this question: subtle spectroscopic features allow us to understand how fast the remnants of the explosion travel, what they are made of, and in which physical state they are. (4/6)

We know remnants of supernovae display a lot of asymmetries, with patches of explosion remnants containing more chemical species than others (e.g. oxygen 🌊, iron 🧲, etc.). What we don't know, however, is what #physics govern these explosions and lead to these asymmetries. (3/6)
