Not sure what is zipping across the west Texas sky, but it is moving fast. Has a large V trail behind it.

Wonderful to host the Scotland Association of Young Farmers Club. They are touring Texas Agriculture and stop to learn about cotton production. They were able to witness one of our west Texas sand storms. Good to hear their story of agriculture in Scotland as well.

I finally found my field of dreams for #cotton 2025. Lost half of the crop early season due to hail, but what was savaged has impressed me. Quality has been good for a late crop. Cotton is sustainable, environmentally friendly, and comfortable to wear. So what’s in your closet?

Thanks to all the men and women that have served our country. We appreciate your sacrifice in war and peace time. I want to honor these two family members from WWII. One in Europe one in the Pacific. Both seen major battles. My father, my wife’s grandfather. God bless our VETs

And just like that, 2025 Milo harvest is in the books. Off and on since September I hope the machine is ready to be put into hibernation “barn” I know I’m ready for to take a nap till next year. We will find our way back into the cotton fields tomorrow. The fabric of our lives.

I’ve been seeing this big boy for months. He is hard to see in the picture because he blends in with the background. Today he pop up in front of the combine. Looks like he has been enjoying the milo, he is big boy.

This is milo planted behind failed cotton at the end of June. Good yields cannot offset low commodity prices and high input costs. The residue will be helpful for next’s year’s cotton crop.

Yesterday we were in the cotton field short a crew member which slowed us down. Today we moved over to the Milo field and now waiting on trucks. Not making much harvest progress these days.

Hosted a delegation from Bayer-Brazil as they tour agriculture in the great state of Texas. Good to visit with fellow producers, industry leaders, researchers and discuss items we have in common.

This put a halt on harvest. I heard that about seven miles north east of here it covered the ground in hail that it looked like it snowed. Don’t know the extent of the damage, it is the wrong time of year for this weather.

Replaced sixteen plastic wear shoes on the row units of the cotton stripper. At current cotton price it took 300 lbs of cotton lint to pay for these plastic parts.

2025 cotton harvest started today. First basket and first module. Some gremlins had to be worked out, I’m sure more will pop up.

Weekend horse shed made for the wife’s four legged friends. Thanks to the youngest son for coming home and getting trapped into building it. Building it went smoother than I thought, but two days, from 8 to 10 to roll it out and get it into the pasture.

Today was long. Started with a grower meeting on the cotton industry. Next the chamber of commerce harvest luncheon. Finally the community said bye to a wonderful neighbor and long time friend, standing room only, overflow in the fellowship hall. Tractor escort to cemetery.

Reviewing old newspapers that my mom kept from March 1970. Cotton planting seed from $12.00 to $17.00 per bag. Those farmers wouldn’t believe today the prices are $300.00 to 500.00 per bag. Cotton lint prices then and today are just a few cents different. The price of progress.

Today is #WorldCottonDay. It’s a global celebration of cotton from field to fabric and beyond! And in Texas, which is the top cotton-producing state, cotton and cottonseed bring in $2.8billion annually. See the transformation from field to fabric on Texas Table Top:

After waiting a week for parts, several more days to install parts and bolt everything back. Milo harvesting began today. My dad always said it’s hard to go to heaven when you own, work on or run a combine.
